Sara Lee - The corporate mascot for the Sara Lee Corporation. Their mascot is based on Sara Lee Lubin, the daughter of Charles W. Lubin, a bakery entrepreneur who pooled his resources ($700) with his brother-in-law in 1932 and purchased a small chain of bakeries called Community Bake Shops. When Lubin later introduced a new line of cheesecakes, he (on the advice of his wife, Tillie) decided to name his new cheesecakes after his eight-year-old daughter, Sara Lee. And, from the beginning, Lubin insisted his product "had to be perfect" because they bore his daughter's name.

The secret of his bakery products was in his manufacturing method in which he completely froze his baked products after they come out of the oven - thus guaranteeing freshness.

In January 1950, Lubin organized as the Kitchens of Sara Lee. In 1956, his company was purchased by Consolidated Foods who later changed their name to the Sara Lee Corporation in 1985. Today, the Sara Lee Bakery Group is a division of a larger Sara Lee Corporation whose expanded product lines include such categories as packaged meats, coffee, tea, underwear (Hanes), intimate apparel, body care, air care, shoe care and air fresheners.

TRIVIA NOTE:  The real Sara Lee Lubin never held a management position in the corporation but did work part-time in the plant offices. Over the year, however, she did appear as a corporate spokesperson for the company in some advertisements. Today, Sara Lee Lubin Schupf is a philanthropist and devotes her time in supporting education causes such as the advancement of woman and girls in science.

In 1995, Sara Lee funded a professorship at Skidmore College (NY) to be called the Charles Lubin Family Chair for Women in Science. Sara Lee Lubin graduated from Skidmore College in 1962. Sara's father, Charles W. Lubin (born November 16, 1903) died of a heart attack on July 15, 1988 in Chicago, Illinois.

Sara Lee's corporate headquarters is based in Chicago's "Loop" District at Three First National Plaza, 70 West Madison, Chicago, Illinois In 2001, their Food Division relocated from the Memphis, Tennessee region to an 80,000-square-foot Hawthorne Center at Reed Hartman Highway and Carver Road in Blue Ash near Cincinnati.
