Comedian Jimmy Durante was
fond of saying "Everybody's got to get into the act!" This is
none truer than with the numerous award ceremonies that litter
television throughout the year. In 1995 Michelle Quinn of the
San Francisco Chronicle counted 60 entertainment award
shows, including at least 31 honoring film, 19 for television
and 22 for music. At this rate, one day there will be a
24-hour-a-day cable channel for awards shows. The following
section lists major awards given by publishers, writers,
directors and organizations to honor the television industry.
Also included are awards that have originated within a TV
programs such as the "Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Award" from
the comedy variety show ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN/NBC/1968-73.

"But most of all, I wanna take this moment
to thank the real, true TV
viewers...People like me. People that are
too lazy to read a book. Too tired to go
out. Don't care what they're watching as
long as their TVs on. The shut ins. The
unemployed. People in prison. This is for
you." |
