Sunnydale - Vampire ridden town (pop.
38,500) on the horror adventure BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER/WB/UPN/1997-2003.
Sunnydale ("a one Starbucks town") rests on the center of a mystical
convergence called "Hellmouth," which is a portal between this
reality and the next. The Hellmouth is a magnet for all sorts of
supernatural creatures.

In an attempt to conquer this world, an evil
demon called The Master (Mark Metcalf) tried to open the portal and
destroy the world of the humans. Fortunately, his plans were foiled
by Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), a beautiful teenage
vampire slayer who with the assistance of her Librarian mentor,
Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) and her high school friends (aka
"The Scooby Gang/Slayerettes"), keeps the demons roaming the town of
Sunnydale at bay.
Besides the demons, Sunnydale contained a high
school, a mall, a miniature golf course, some 43 churches, 2 costume
shops, an ice cream parlor, ice skating rink, Slick Willy's bar, an
art gallery (owned by Buffy's mom), a history museum, a huge
cemetery, docks, a bus station, a National Guard Base, and a
hospital to handle the town's extremely large body count.
On the
series finale in May 2003, the town of Sunnydale (founded 1909) and the Hellmouth
that resided beneath were destroyed in an apocryphal battle between
good and evil. All that remains of Sunnydale is a hole in the
ground. Buffy Summers and her friends escaped the destruction just
in the nick of time by snagging a ride on a fleeing school bus. See
