What is a Xenite? Well, according to the Alt.Tv.Xena News Group "If you love and watch the show, you are a Xenite.

When the fans were debating what to call themselves, 'Xenite' had some close competition from 'Xenaphile', but Xenite won out." Reportedly, Lucy Lawless (a.k.a. "Xena") actually used the term for the first time in an interview and it simply stuck.

In the Xenaverse, Xena and her sidekick/soulmate Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) travel a mythological landscape (mainly Greek and Roman) and routinely engage in rough and tumble martial arts-ladden battle sequences.

According to the Official MCA web site Xena is "Surrounded by enemies, barbaric tribes, slave traders, and a host of other evils, Xena is on a mission to help people free themselves from tyranny and injustice."

Throughout their quest for justice, the bond of friendship is very strong between Xena and Gabreille. So strong, in fact, that many viewers believe that the two are lovers. Their alleged lesbian lifestyle is derived from their many intimate conversations and the close quarters they kept during their journeys.

One might point out, however, that since both Xena and Gabrielle had relationships with men in the series, the subtext of lesbianism is more rightfully interpreted as bisexualism. I'll leave it up to loyal Xenites everywhere to come to their own conclusions.

 Nonetheless, the Xena character has become an icon of strength and beauty to both the straight and lesbian communities worldwide. And hey, guys like her, too. Battle on, Xena!
