The Flatbush Fungos consisted of five recently
graduated middle-class Italian teenagers who
lived in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn in New
York City.
Members included Presto Prestopopolos (Joseph
Cali), a taxi driver; Socks Palermo (Adrian Zmed),
a clothing store employee; Turtle Romero
(Vincent Bufano), restaurant worker; Joey Dee
(Randy Stumpf), a plumber's assistant; and Figgy
Figueroa (Sandy Helberg), a grocery deliveryman.
TRIVIA NOTE:
The series was inspired by the motion picture
The Lords of Flatbush (1974) starring Perry
King, Sylvester Stallone, Henry Winkler and Paul
Mace as a
group of 1958 Brooklyn youths in black leather
jackets who do everything together. In the film,
Sylvester Stallone as Stanley Rosiello said, "
If you ever show my girl a ring like that again,
you know what's gonna be written on your
tombstone? 'I was dumb enough to show Frannie
Malincanico a $1600 ring,' ya got that?"
