Cheyenne Mountain - Located near the city of
Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cheyenne Mountain (Cheyenne Mountain Operations
Center) is a high-security government facility featured on the science
fiction adventure STARGATE SG-1/SHO/SCI/1997+.
The facility houses a top-secret operation called the Stargate Command (SGC).
Run by the U.S. Air Force, it contains an ancient portal device (The
Stargate) created millions of years ago by a race called the Ancients.
The Stargate enables near-instantaneous travel via worm-hole technology from
one point in the galaxy to another. The Stargate's embarkation room is
located on Level 28.
The Stargate is used to develop diplomatic relations with other species on
other planets like the Asgard, and as a frontline weapon against a sinister
invading forces of the Goa'Uld.
The base operated under the command of Major General George S. Hammond for
several years, and later by diplomat Elizabeth Weir , the
newly promoted Brigadier General Jack O'Neill and finally Major General Hank
Landry.
Situated above the Stargate operation is an other sensitive military
operations called N.O.R.A.D. "North American Aerospace Defense Command."
