Ah,
February. The time when lovers snuggle
beneath a blanket, share the warmth of an
open hearth and tell each other how much
they love each other by exchanging small
gifts of affection.
Well, if you're so inclined to do all that
romantic stuff, that's OK, but after
you're finished, don't forget to spend
some time browsing through TV Acres.
For those of you who feel Valentine's Day
is just a hassle, then you'll enjoy
reading the short excerpt below.

[Paul and Jamie Buchman from MAD ABOUT YOU
share a quiet moment at home] |
|
Paul: |
Why is it I love you any more in the middle of February than I would
on, say, August 21st? You know, to me, every day with you is
Valentine's Day. |
|
Jamie: |
So, in other words, you forgot to buy me a card. |
|
Paul: |
That's what I'm saying...What is the big deal with Valentine's Day?
It's a made-up holiday. Nobody even knows who this St. Valentine guy
was. |
|
Jamie: |
He was a Roman priest who defended the Christians and was beheaded
by Claudius II on February 14, 269 A.D. |
|
Moral: You can't bamboozle your wife. She's always on top of her
game and you should know by now that it's futile to try. |

"Why do we feel the need to own what we love, and why do we become
such jerks when we do? We've all been there, you know: we want
something; we own it; and by owning it we change it. When you
finally win that girl of your dreams, the first thing you do is try
to change her. That little thing she does with her hair, the way she
wears her clothes, the way she chews her gum. Until eventually, what
you like, what you don't like and what you change all merges into
one. Like a watercolor in the rain." |

"Love. A blip on the monitor of involuntary human response. A hiccup
of an emotion when compared with envy, hatred, lust. And just who
was this St. Valentine? A bishop, Roman, third century, got his head
sliced off-- ouch-- for marrying lovers against his emperor's
decree. You see Claudius II believed men made better warriors
unmarried. Power comes with the absence of love. Love drains us of
our strength. We never learn, do we? And you say that love conquers
all? Well not for you, St. Valentine, not for me. Not for any of the
heartbroken." |

Clark: |
"Lois, I have loved you from the moment that I saw you. I love your
humor, your passion, and the way you just dive right in, even when
you shouldn't. Because you refuse to just watch the world, you
demand that it be a better place, and because of you, it is. And
today I want to give you as much of the world as I can, so I give
you my heart, my soul, our future." |
|
Lois: |
Clark, you're my best friend. Until I met you
I never had a best friend. And falling in love with you has
been so easy, I don't know why I fought it so long. You have
such gentle grace, and such quiet strength, and mostly... such
incredible kindness. I've never known anyone with as pure a
heart, and so today I give you my love, and my honor, and our
life, together." |
