Bowie Knife - Large knife
featured on the western series THE ADVENTURES OF JIM
BOWIE/ABC/1956-58.

Jim Bowie Ready for Action
Set in the Louisiana Territory of the 1830s this western,
based on the book Tempered Blade by Monte Barrett, was the
story of adventurer Jim Bowie (Scott Forbes) who carried a
knife instead of a gun.
According to legend, Jim Bowie invented the longer,
stronger Bowie knife (actually created by his brother Rezin
Bowie played by Peter Hanson) when his smaller knife broke
against the tough hide of a grizzly bear.
Later in his life, Jim's Bowie famous knife was at his side
as he died defending the Alamo mission against the Mexican
Army.
TRIVIA NOTE: The state of Arkansas is nicknamed the Bowie
State because during its early days many of its residents
carried a Bowie knife; it was also called the Toothpick State
because early settlers used Bowie knives (a.k.a. "Arkansas
Toothpicks") to pick their teeth.
